Process Safety Management Support
Southern Texas

Overview:

A nationally recognized producer of canned vegetables sought assistance from Foth to prepare a Process Safety Management (PSM) program for its first venture into refrigerated warehousing. This effort included conducting a site assessment to understand the level of effort required to assist the operations where the warehouse was being built. The site visit was followed by preparing a PSM plan and supporting documentation.

This work spanned more than six months and included the preparation of a Clean Air Act Risk Management Plan submittal as part of the scope.

During the execution of this project Foth utilized individuals highly experienced in preparing PSM plans and working with plant safety and maintenance personnel.

Challenges:

  • Foth had to rapidly acquire an understanding of the facility's unique environmental, health and safety foot-print in order to assess what conditions had to be reflected in the written plans.
  • Foth had to interact with several involved entities, including our direct client, their lessee company building the warehouse and the refrigeration equipment contractor.
  • While the facility has a long-established health and safety program, the introduction of PSM required a "culture change" as well as updating of many safety programs.

Benefits:

Today this firm enjoys the following benefits of its selection of Foth to complete this work:

  • The client has a better environmental partner in Foth for their national businesses.
  • The client is assured of having written PSM and RMP plans that are compliant with federal OSHA and EPA requirements.
  • The client—because of Foth's approach—has become more self-reliant going forward, such that the plant can maintain the tools and reports that are part of their PSM and RMP programs.
