Sheboygan River, Wisconsin

Tecumseh Products Company retained Foth to implement the Remedial Design (RD) and Remedial Action (RA) work on the Sheboygan River Superfund Site. Foth was retained by Tecumseh to assist in Statement of Work/Consent Decree negotiations and to implement RD/RA work in the Sheboygan River. Following work on the Plant Site to address any remaining source of contaminants, certain contaminated floodplain soils and river sediments in the Sheboygan River will be remediated to reduce environmental sediment PCB concentrations.
Challenges:
- Eliminate source of contaminants to the river system.
- Design sediment removal system, given shallow water depth and high river water velocities, while maintaining suspended solids control.
- Obtain site access agreements from private
properties.
- Achieve PCB mass removal and target concentration objectives.
Benefits:
- Source removal through use of 3-D modeling software to visualize lateral and vertical extent of PCB source area.
- Reliance on technological expertise, sediment experience and relationships with numerous marine contractors to develop effective, cost efficient remediation procedures and sediment resuspension control measures.
- Fair access agreements with adjacent property owners and industries will benefit project budget.
- Successfully manage and reduce liability for Tecumseh.
