Runway 11/29 Reconstruction
Columbia Metropolitan Airport, Columbia, South Carolina

In 2010, the Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE) began reconstruction of its primary runway, Runway 11/29. The project initially involved the reconstruction of the keel section but was expanded to include the entire runway and the intersection with Runway 5/23, following favorable bid prices.

Foth.s Construction Management Team provided onsite management, administration and resident engineering services for CAE on the project. The project included critical schedule components to minimize impacts to United Parcel Service, Inc. (UPS) operations during the busy holiday season. Foth worked with CAE, the FAA, UPS Engineering, UPS Network and Planning, and the Contractor to coordinate the reopening of Runway 11/29 in advance of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

Following the holiday season, the Runway 29 threshold was displaced for the reconstruction of the Runway 11/29 and Runway 5/23 intersection. The intersection was reopened within 25 days, following complete pavement section replacement, new centerline lighting and various site improvements.

Project Cost: $12,000,000
