Water Treatment Plant, East Peoria, Illinois

The City of East Peoria (population 23,000) is located on the bluffs and valley of the Illinois River. The city is experiencing healthy growth spurred by successful economic development. Home for the Paradise Riverboat Casino and Hotel, recent additions include the Eastside Recreation Complex and Water Park as well as a Super Walmart. A Kohl's department store, 60 acre Technology Business Park, and Riverfront
Convention Center and Hotel are currently underway or pending initiation. Significant improvements to Interstate 74 through East Peoria are anticipated to spur further growth to the community.

The North Main facility was a greensand filter plant built in the 1960's. The city relies heavily on the North Main plant since it supplies the water to the casino and hotel, Caterpillar, and the downtown business district. In the early 1990's the city determined the facility was nearing the end of its design life and producing unacceptable water. It was determined that a similar treatment scheme to the Oakwood Road facility would be effective at the North Main facility through the use of a pilot plant.

Foth provided design and construction engineering services to construct a new 1 MGD water treatment facility within the shell of the old, reusing the existing building, wells and filters. A concrete detention tank and aerator were added on the front end, and a backwash holding tank was added onto the rear. The building and filters were completely retrofitted. All plumbing, chemical feed systems, HVAC and controls were replaced. Unlike the Oakwood Road facility, North Main is a pressure filter system with no clear well.
