Hansen Road
Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin
The village of Ashwaubenon wished to make improvements on Hansen Road, from Oneida Street to Ashland Avenue. As consulting engineer for Ashwaubenon’s major utility and roadway needs, Foth worked to upgrade the deteriorating Hansen Road by making it wider, adding a concrete surface and creating bike lanes.
Improvements to Hansen Road
Foth conducted reconstruction on this 0.5 mile urban street in order to improve vertical alignment and add width to the roadway. Some engineering design services included: utility relocation, utilization of adjacent lands and evaluating alignment alternatives while considering property access. Also included in the construction was two paved bike lanes, one on each side adjacent to the travel lanes. The project was funded with STP-urban funds and was required to be designed in accordance with the WisDOT Facility Development Manual.
Project Specifics:
- Route study
- Field surveys
- Stormwater hydraulics
- Soils evaluation
- Pavement design
- Phase I and II environmental investigation
- Plans and specifications
Challenges:
- As an earlier phase of this project, the storm sewer had to be constructed. Additional capacity was needed to serve not only the new roadway, but the intensely developed lands adjacent to the roadway.
- Hansen Road was closed to thru traffic during the construction phase. One lane in each direction was maintained for local business access.
