Water System
Madison Water Utility, Wisconsin
Foth was retained by the city of Madison Water Utility to design and construct a new booster station in the Blackhawk neighborhood in Madison, Wisconsin.
Challenges:
- The pump station was designed to function with-out an elevated tank for the first few years of its existence and then in later years operate with an elevated tank.
- Due to changing conditions in the neighborhood over the life of the booster pump station, it was required to provide a wide range of pressure and flows to meet changing domestic water and fire protection demands.
- The project required public relations and design reviews by utility staff and city commissions because the pump station was located in a residential neighborhood.
Benefits:
- Flexibility in operations to meet changing service area water demands
- Economical solution for suppling water to a developing service area
- A structure that blends in with the residential development adjacent to the pump station
- Automatic operation to free up operator for other duties
