Singulate-Scan-Induction Unit (SSIU) Program Management Support

The USPS needed to increase parcel automation in their Bulk Mail Centers and chose to deploy SSIU systems in 19 facilities.  Foth was responsible for overall design review of the Architectural / Engineering and Fixed Mechanization installation drawings along with the project specifications / structural calculations. Foth coordinated a team of 5 Resident Engineers sent to the Sites to insure compliance to the Program's SOW and OSHA requirements.

Challenges:

  • New technology for USPS
  • Extensive Site prep modifications while mail processing  operations continued.
  • Unique structural supports in existing facilities
  • Multiple Sites Engineered & Deployed on the same schedule.

Benefits:

  • Documented engineering deficiencies prior to construction mobilization, resulting in cost savings.
  • Consistent review process allowed deficiencies and in turn the corrections to be rolled into future engineering packages prior to fabrication & installation.
  • Resident Engineers expertise successfully facilitated an aggressive deployment schedule.

Project Included:

  • Look Out Gallery demolition / modifications
  • Rerouted Fire and Utility systems
  • Multiple Structural Ceiling Hanger Designs
  • Mezzanine Installation over Tow Line
  • Waterfall conveyors
