Foth Selected for Saxon Harbor Restoration

Foth was recently awarded a contract from Iron County (WI) Forestry and Parks to reconstruct the Saxon Harbor Marina and Campground which was destroyed by a storm in July 2016.

The popular tourist attraction on Lake Superior has been closed since then as Iron County Forestry and Parks managed the cleanup and sought public input from visitors to the Park regarding its reconstruction.

In April the County approved a contract with Foth to begin restoration efforts. The Foth team, which includes SmithGroupJJR and UP Engineers and Architects, will provide:

  • Dredging of the marina and Oronto Creek streambed
  • Engineering, design and construction of all marina facilities
  • Campground site development, design and construction
  • FEMA funding management
  • Grant and funding assistance

The project is on an aggressive schedule with plans to reopen portions of the harbor in the fall of 2018 and to complete the project in 2019. The Park’s reconstruction will restore this valuable economic asset to the area, provide safer access to Lake Superior, and include facilities that the community and visitors can enjoy for years to come.
