A large paper mill facility needed to replace their influent water processing systems as they were at the end of their service life. We developed a plan to design and install the new water system, switch over and decommission the existing water systems without impacting operations. Adding to the project complexity was the lack of documentation for the underground associated existing piping.
We took into consideration the potential for future water needs and designed a system that had capability for 12% increase in water processing. Utilizing ground penetrating radar and hydro exuviation, we were able to locate the underground piping and services. The use of 3D scanning and 3D modeling allowed for a collaborative design approach. This enabled construction to plan the tie-ins to minimize impact to operations.
This project was accomplished on schedule and under budget while working with the constraints of a short construction window due to seasonal weather (winter). “The use of the 3D modeling was invaluable on this project.
