Foth Helps Secure MARAD PIDP Grants

Foth extends congratulations to the City of Alpena, Mich. and Lafarge Alpena (Lafarge) as recipients of a $3,751,623 Maritime Administration (MARAD) Port Infrastructure Development (PIDP) grant, and prepares to help additional communities leverage another round of grant funding.

The City of Alpena partnered with Lafarge to upgrade and modernize Lafarge’s port and landside shipping facilities. This public-private partnership will allow Lafarge to meet the increasing demand for the plant’s construction products.

Berth dredging and dock and storage yard improvements will allow the port to reduce vessel calls by accepting larger ships, resulting in capacity expansion and lower shipping costs.

As managing partner for the grant application, Foth provided the city and Lafarge with engineering design, application development, and coordination leading to a successful application and acquisition of the grant funds. Foth has helped secure more than $170 million in local, state and federal grants for projects across the United States.

The Department of Transportation announced in February that it will make available nearly $450 million in grant funding under the Port Infrastructure Development Program (PIDP) to projects that improve the safety, efficiency, or reliability of the movement of goods into, out of, around, or within a port. PIDP grants are awarded on a competitive basis.

The PIDP filing deadline is May 16, 2022. Foth is available to assist with project feasibility assessments, application development and coordination.
