Background

A large soup producer needed an alternative to their traditional OEM-led line design and integration projects. Foth was engaged to provide an objective, engineer-led line design and integration plans for a new high-speed soup can packaging line. The project included the coordination and integration of multiple vendors, contractors and software platforms.

Approach

The project included the development of a new line that would replace two existing lines. Foth was responsible for the overall line layout, the development of bid and final construction packages, and the line’s integration, including startup and commissioning. The scope of work also involved the coordination and integration of new equipment, including a full can system, bright can accumulator, labeler, tray shrink and pad packers, new inspection systems, labeling, full carton system, and a new full case palletizer. We supported this project with a full-time, on-site construction manager.

Results

Seamless engineering and construction resulted in an on-time startup that exceeded the ramp-up curve, and exceeded production and efficiency goals of the previous lines. Our design integrated new packaging equipment into the existing footprint without any building modifications, We also successfully coordinated multiple OEMs and provided construction management for multiple contractors.
