Finished Goods Warehousing Expansion to Improve Inventory Control

Background

A large wholesale supplier of natural sweeteners to the baking industry needed to expand its finished goods’ warehousing capacity to better support customer demand. Following supply disruptions during the pandemic, customers requested that the company carry higher inventory levels to ensure reliable product availability.

To meet this need, the supplier sought a long‑term finished goods warehouse that would improve inventory control while integrating seamlessly with existing operations. The facility also needed to accommodate future growth plans and evolving storage requirements.

Approach

Our team provided facility planning, facility design, and construction services to support the finished goods warehousing expansion. We evaluated multiple options for increasing on‑site storage before developing a phased approach for immediate capacity gains and future expansion.

The first phase included the design and construction of a 170,000‑square‑foot finished goods warehouse addition. Accommodating the new structure required extensive earthwork along with the design and installation of a new stormwater detention system. During early planning, our team also secured a zoning variance to support the expanded footprint.

The finished goods warehousing facility was designed with a flexible racking layout to allow storage configurations to evolve as inventory needs change. We incorporated energy‑efficient lighting and heating systems to reduce long‑term operating costs. Additional dock doors, office space, and breakrooms were included to support warehouse staff and shipping operations.

Results

The completed finished goods warehousing expansion provides the client with greater control over inventory and improved distribution efficiency. The new facility offers approximately 13,280 pallet positions and includes 10 dock doors to support increased shipping volume.

By delivering a scalable finished goods warehousing solution with flexible storage layouts and energy‑efficient systems, we helped the client strengthen supply chain resiliency and respond more effectively to customer needs. The phased design supports both current operational demands and future growth.
